What is Dispensationalism?

Dispensationalism is a method of Bible study that endeavors to find the Right Divisions of Scripture as commanded in 2 Timothy 2:15. Certain groups that hold to other eschatological stances simply see Dispensationalism as mainly an end-time viewpoint, typically Pre-millennial and generally including a Pre-Tribulational Rapture of the Church, though that is not always the case. However, while most if not all Dispensationalists hold to the Biblical Pre-Mil/Pre-Trib view, Dispensationalism is much, much deeper than just the End Times.

Dispensationalists begin with the Bible as it is written. Some historical Dispensationalists have succumbed to questioning, supplementing, or even changing the words of Scripture in order to line up with their doctrines or opinions, but true Bible Believing Dispensationalists hold that the Bible is perfect and without error, and we should accept its words as absolute and unquestionable. See “Why KJB?” for more information about this topic. Famous Dispensationalists like Clarence Larkin and Cyrus Ingerson Scofield, while great resources, were also proponents of modern versions, such as Larkin referring frequently to the RV in his works. However, one can certainly use the foundation that they have laid to help him understand the Scriptures. Other early believers also believed in a dispensational view of the Scriptures and of history.

As the Bible directs that our method of Bible study is by “rightly dividing the word of truth,” it is therefore clear that the Bible has divisions in it. Our job, in order to be workmen that need not to be ashamed, is to study out these divisions and make sure that we divide what God hath not joined together.

As you browse through this site, hopefully with a mind and heart open to the word of God, you will see how God has laid out the Scriptures, history, and His sovereign plan along these Biblical Divisions.
