This command is vital because it does three things:
- It commands us to study
It tells us why to study
It tells us how to study
Only by obeying this command, the precursor to the commentary on humanity in 2 Timothy chapter 3, can we be certain to avoid the heresies and apostasy that are inevitable and rampant today.
Ruckmanites.com is here to be an encouragement to the Believer, a help to the new Christian, and a tool for the Soldiers that are withstanding the world, flesh, and devil. The Bible must be “Rightly Divided.” That means that the divisions of Scripture must be understood, based on what the Scripture says. Only God’s word can be tested against itself in this manner. The divisions allow us to discern which parts were “written for our learning,” and which parts are applicable directly to us for doctrine now. 2 Timothy 3:16 says that all scripture is profitable for doctrine, but that does not mean that it is always profitable for your doctrine. You wouldn’t want to build your soteriology off of Matthew 5, since if you did that you’d have to go cut your hand off and gouge your eye out!
